I've spent more than 30 years building software and solving difficult problems.
Bin Bookings began much the same way: there was a problem that needed solving. Finding and comparing skip bins was harder and less transparent than it needed to be. But the more I learned about the industry — and particularly the independent businesses behind it — the more important the project became to me.
I became convinced there was an opportunity to build something genuinely useful: a marketplace that helps ordinary customers understand the whole offer and make a confident choice, while helping good service providers be discovered as the way people search and buy changes — and giving them the opportunity to compete on the value they offer.
Bin Bookings has become much more than another software project to me. It's something I want to get right, and build properly for the long term.
Outside work, I spend most of my time with my family and as much time as I can walking in the mountains of New Zealand's South Island. Those things influence how I think about the business too: build something useful, look after the people involved, and take the long view.
